There is currently a congressional moratorium on Internet-based taxes through October 2001. However, many merchants still charge sales tax on your purchases (particularly to residents of states in which they have a brick-and-mortar presence).
When you are comparing prices between Web-based stores, be sure to take into account whether they charge sales tax or not. For large purchases, this can be a significant amount.
Each store's Customer Service page (or department if they offer a phone number)
should be able to provide you with this information before checkout time.
